Toyota reliability is legitimate but a bit of a circlejerk imo. People seem to forget about the entire generation of tacomas that were literally rusting in half after a few years. Personally I think that most new cars should last you a good while as long as you are doing your maintenance on time and taking care of it.
Happy User. Using this car since last 1.5 year, so would like to share few words based on my experience, This car comes with great comfort, great safety features, great stearing performance, good

Toyota had a lot of dry years for enthusiast cars. So happy to see them with the 86, supra, gr yaris. I think a car like this with toyota reliability is a true gem. Bit late to the party but for posterity - your wife's 2010 Yaris - aka Toyota Vitz in other markets, has absolutely nothing to do with this car, as it's a Yaris in name only - it's fully a Mazda 2 with some Toyota badges. Mazda reliability as of late has been good - so it shouldn't be a problem. Just the 2 cars are completely unrelated. Got my 07 hatch in 2011 for 4500 with only 45k on the car. Still can't believe the deal I got. Still driving it, just broke 75k the other day. Wife's car is an 08 sedan with 105k on the clock. Super easy to work on, reliable as can be, and the fuel milage is insane. I average about 49 highway in my hatch.
Thanks for all your input!! I'm in the US, looking for an automatic, so I think I will stay away from the Fiesta. I was considering a used car but it seems like I'll be able to get a lower interest rate on a new car (ex. the Yaris has a 2.9% financing offer right now). I don't know anything really about Hyundais but I'll take look!
